Are credit counseling services any good at all? Was told to speak to one such company prior to my bankruptcy procedure. I want to know what to expect in my meeting with thm

You would be presented with bill of rights and disclosure form to read through, sign and date.

Your debt would be assessed via an interview and review of your credit report, monthly income, expenses, liabilities and assets.

You and your counselor would develop a budget.

You would be briefed about debt management and debt settlement (alternative to bankruptcy)

You would receive a certificate.

Given what was mentioned above, I'd like to assume you'd probably also be given the option to push thru with credit counseling instead of filing for bankruptcy outright. Is that possible?
