Okay that is asinine that you would suggest that, just because you can settle private student loans doesn't mean that you should take out a student loan with intentions of not paying it back. That's like taking out a credit card and saying you aren't going to pay it back you are just going to settle it as soon as it is charged off

I would agree with "what??", taking on more debt just to settle is ridiculous (and probably won't look good at the hearing either!). 

Why not find a job using your current eduation, and get the Masters eventually?  Pay as you go style.  Maybe your new employer will even assist with the schooling!

CreativeTopics has a good point there. If you're asking "does debt settlement work for private student loans," it would be also of help to you if you are able to refinance your student loan. That way, you'd have to pay just a little each time while you're working and finishing your degree at the same time.
