Posted on May 24, 2009 at 11:23 am I filed bankruptcy like two and a half years ago. Every time I try to get new credit it becomes a huge issue. Can I get that off of my report? If so how would I go about doing that?

Posted on May 24, 2009 at 11:31 am financial x- it depends on what Chapter you filed. Chapter 7 Bankruptcy stays on your credit report for 10 years. Chapter 13 Bankruptcy stays on your credit report for 7 years. It sounds like either way you have a ways to go. Keep in mind however that the more time that passes the better chance you will have of being approved for credit (and at lower interest rates). Unfortunately the negative impact that the bankruptcy filing has on your credit is unavoidable. Also, both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 Bankruptcy stay on your legal records for 20 years.

Posted on May 24, 2009 at 11:43 am Trust me when I tell you that a credit repair company will not be able to help you get a banmkruptcy filing off of your credit report faster then 7 or 10 years, depending what you filed a few years ago.

Posted on May 25, 2009 at 12:42 am It may have something to do with some of your creditors listing your debt as still "active". If your bankruptcy was given a successful discharge 2 years ago, you are supposed to be already free from the stigma of owing your creditors money, and you are supposed to be only dealing with "it" happening to you in the past. Request for a copy of your credit report for this year and review the details.If it turns out that I'm right and your credit report is not updated or the information that the credit bureaus have are also not updated--do check both, they are two different systems-- then the inaccurate report is what's causing your credit to be turned down.
