Somebody brought this company up in another thread and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the company or possibly had any experience with them? I need to get a solid credit counseling company to help we with my situation so any input would help.

Hi Need Help- Credit Solutions of America is actually a debt settlement company that works with creditors to get them to accept a portion of what is owed to satisfy the balance in full. They actually claim that they are the largest settlement firm in the nation- but I can't confirmt that. If you are looking for a credit counseling agency I would suggest contacting the Better Business Bureau (BBB) to go through them. This will help to ensure that you are getting hooked up with a reputable provider. For anyone else who may be interested in this company- I noticed there have been a lot of complaints recently about their service. The BBB profile states that they have received over 1,600 complaints within the last 3 years. Also, there have been two cases brought against the company from the Attorney General of Texas and the Idaho Department of Finance. The AG of Texas filed suit against the company for using deceptive selling tactics and for failing to actually negotiate people's debts down. In Idaho, the company was practicing business there without a license (which is necessary in that state) and was forced to reimburse those clients who had paid the company fees (over $580 K) for their service.

That is true- but keep in mind that the number of complaints is not all that high considering the fact that they have something like 90,000 clients nationwide. When you dive into the numbers a bit more it becomes clear that 1,600 is not too many over 3 years.

The Attorney General of New York is also suing Credit Solutions for deceptive business practices.   There are 1000s of different companies out there that can help you get out of debt - there is no reason to use Credit Solutions.  You can either search on Google for one or you can get matched on DestroyDebt by filling out a form.

If you are having trouble finding a credible debt settlement company, you may also want to go to The Association of Settlement Companies (TASC) website. They provide a listing of settlement companies who are in fact members of TASC (and some who are not), which is a fairly good supplement to being a member of the BBB as TG previously mentioned. The website is www.tascsite.org

I didn’t even know there was a BBB till recently. I used credit solutions of America in 2004 and it is still haunting me today.  When I signed up with them I had $15000 credit card debt but I still had a credit score of 750. I was with CSA for 4 months then my credit score was 400. I tried to contact them by phone email internet. No responses till I put a hold on my bank account and they could not take anymore of my money.   Trust me credit solutions of America is a suck balls company. I am going to be filling a complaint with the BBB and I am going to get all the money the stole from me.

Does Credit Solutions of America work? The answer? Maybe not. I found this online:"Two debt settlement companies have been sued by New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo on behalf of 20,000 New York consumers, as part of Cuomo’s probe into the debt settlement industry. Credit Solutions of America, Inc. in Texas and Nationwide Asset Services, Inc. in Arizona are both facing charges of fraud, deceptive practices, and false advertising.."
