Debt In Death? What Happens?

I have always been worried what would happen if something suddenly happens to me, does all my debt get transferred to my spouse and kids? Will they be demanded to pay for my obligations? I get so worried because I really feel that my kids should not bear the burden of my mistakes. To the point that I become afraid to die and I get so panicky about getting all my obligations settled. Appreciate your suggestions, comments and advice
