One way I have effectively saved money in the past has been to hide money from myself. Of course, I know where I put it, most of the time, but I put it in a place that I rarely look. Out of site, out of mind. Then, later on, I "find" the money when I absolutely need it. A good place to "hide" money is in a drawer that you rarely get in to, or a lock box.

I never hide the money when I grow up. But I used to do when I was a little boy, which can let me buy some small gifts for myself! that has gone!
