I know that they are trying to collect money and that it is their job but does anyone else get really mad and irritated by the rude and abrassive credit card collectors on the phone? I have had some very kind and friendly ones that because they don't make me feel bad or attack me that I will go out of my way to pay alittle bit more than I can afford on my bill...but I also get some very nasty and rude ones that at times ruin my day, one even made me cry because she was so incredibly rude that she said "well this isnt my problem that you lost your job, it makes no difference to me",..she was so cold and rude and impatient with other things that it all stressed me out so much that once i hung up the phone i burst into tears :(.....but complaining to the company doesn't do any good im not in good standing with them so they didnt listen to my concerns.....has anyone else faced this issue??

Debt collectors train  to be like that, but not rude as what you have encountered, i dealt with those kind of people one thing you should do is try to talk with the manager discuss your issue regarding your debts and they will give you a time to pay for it

i actually dealt with a very rude collections lady on the phone today - heres the conversation: me: im sorry, this is an invoice that my boss had already taken care of before the company changed owners. they had an invoice with us and we had an invoice with them and we were both supposed to mark the invoices as paid. her: well this says it's not paid so you need to pay it. where is your boss? me: he is in a meeting. if you give me your name and phone number i can have him call when hes out. her: whats his cell phone number? ill call him. me: im sorry, i dont give out his cell phone number without authorization. i am the office manager so i will speak to him and have him call you. whats your name and phone number? her: so what happens when someone calls and they dont want to talk to you? he doesnt give out his cell phone number? if youre the office manager and you cant pay this bill youre not doing your job. me: im sorry, my boss took care of this account 4 months ago. he knows the owner personally so he took care of it himself. i can have him call you after his meeting. her: well if he is the owner there shouldnt be a problem with giving me his cell phone number. me: i dont give that out without authorization. he will call you if you give me you name and number and he will speak to you about this. her: when is he out of the meeting? i dont understand why you wouldnt be able to handle this yourself. me: im sorry? you need to stop being so condescending to me. there is absolutely no need for that and i dont appreciate it. i am doing what my boss is asking me to do. her: im not being condecending or rude, it just doesnt make sense that you dont think you need to pay this and there isnt a way to reach your boss. me: im sorry, ive dealt with a lot of collections agencies in my time and i know better to give out my bosses cell phone number to a company like that. her: oh thats good to know. that you deal with a lot of collections agecnies. me: excuse me? you need to stop being sarcastic and talking down to me. thats rude. theres no need for that. her: what do you mean? im not talking down to you. i jus said it was good to know. that you talk to alot of collections agencies. me: and why is that good to know? her: its just good to know that you have dealt with a lot of collections agencies. you must have a lot of accounts in collections. me: who are you to talk down to me and criticize my work? i explained the situation to you and you are not listening. you are being condecending and rude and i am only trying to do my job. her: then why cant you authorize payment for this? it doesnt make any sense why you cant do your job. i should be able to reach you boss. me: i told you i do not give out cell phone numbers. sorry. it went on like that for about 20 minutes. how rude.

Are you trying to say that we deserve the harassment? I believe in my situation that I clearly did not create any problems for myself, it was a simple error and the woman was being a witch over the phone. It is not okay to harass someone, especially in this way. You cannot call someone at work and criticize how they do their job. It is harassment, and harassment is illegal. A lot of debt collectors are way out of line because they make commission on the funds they retrieve.  I'd like to see how you would act if a debt collector treated you this way.

I worked in a bank before and i have my own experienced of credit card collector calling me about my delayed payment, but every time they will start harassing me, i always remind them that im working i bank and i know why they are being rude. To further explain why they do that, is because every money they collected, they got half of it. Actually when you didn't pay your dues, the bank will considered it bad debt.

youdiezst, you  must not have read the entire conversation. How did the poster create the problem for himself? You sound like a bill collector with blinders on. I could be wrong but that's what it sounds like.

there is a thread about this topic and i have posted there about my technique when it comes to these rude collectors.best way is to talk calmly because they will be embarrassed if they continue their bad attitude on you once you talked with them in a civilized manner.
