Even if you travel, you can still avoid this crime by letting someone you know handle all your mails. If you need to contact someone with regards to your personal information, don't talk on public telephone areas where others can be able to hear.

no one knows about the other person's intentions.all i would say is just try to isolate yourself when you are travelling. or carry your PDC along with you. you can check all your mails on that without any middleman coming in between..

As for the mail, my local post office has something where you can say you will be on vacation for a certain amount of days (Max: 30) and they will hold your mail there in the office for you. It is one of the safest things you could do.

When I travel I use my debit card, I have plenty of coins for tolls. I ask my children to pick up the mail. I only let my neighbors know that I will be gone. I give them the number to hotel in case of an emergency.

We will be leaving town in a few days, we informed the mailman to not leave packages on the porch. (He would take and leave the packages on the porch and ring the dorbell) And to make sure that the mail is not sticking out of the mailbox. We will only be gone for one full day, so no need to have them keep it at the post office.

All post offices in the US will hold mail for you. Unfortunately there have been a couple of cases where a postal employee was being paid by burglars to let them know when people were going to be away.
I travel all the time, and I worry about things like signing into my on-line bank account in internet cafes. So I set it up so I could pay bills, but I didn't set up on-line transfer from my savings account. I have to call back for that, to a brokerage firm, and they know my voice. I don't even have to say my number out loud.
I really don't have much money or very good credit, so I don't think anyone will want my identity.

thats a good thing the postal department exercises in US. am not very sure if the same thing happens here in UK. got to check it out. anyways i am never home for more than 2 months in a year, so none of my mail comes by post.
but what i have observed while travelling abroad is that dont try to show off too much in the public, dont show that you have an expennsive cell phone, ipod and other stuff. just try to mingle with the local crwod and act normally. this is the best thing you can do abroad.
