I remember my mother doing it. She used to have many small envelops and my father and mother would sit together and put the required amount into these envelops. The envelops were marked for different expenditure like electricity bill, water bill, gas bill, vegetables, groceries etc; Whatever was left in those envelops ,at the end of the month was put into bank account..I dont do it , but i used to be fascinated during those days and took a lot of interest in the proceedings , each mont/h wanting to know how much money was left in the envelops...Anyone do this?

Yes especially you need to spend so much on household each month. Try not to touch the main savings account unless needed. Otherwise use those from the household savings. It would refrain you from getting the money there.

My younger sister do that method because my mother is an impulsive buyer.

nope i don't do that..but i think its a good strategy or way to keep you off from spending so much when you open the envelope and found nothing on it already.

Yes it certainly had its uses, first of all it restricted your spending and it also encouraged you to be thrifty so that one could look forward to a little saving during the month end :)
