Will you clear off your debt yourself or acquire services from debt settlement companies? For me, its much better if you handle it yourself, you could probably save more and keep your finances safe.

For others probably just play it safe before getting bankrupt so they take this last recourse.

I think it's also better to handle it yourself. It wouldn't hurt to ask for advice, but you should also be wary of people who might wish to take advantage of you.

I handled it by myself. Although I did asked for some assistance for fixed monthly contributions but, I do still want to have my own freedom on my finances.

You're the one who let your debt grow so it is expected that you'll settle it yourself. In that way you practice responsibility for your own finance woes and in the process learn a thing or two from that experience.

You can settle debts by yourself with some guidance from reliable online Web sites. There are plenty of people that can give advice without charging any money. I've seen a friend of mine do it and she's happy she didn't pay someone to help work through her problems. She did it herself.

There are quite a few books about getting out of debt, and I think most of them maintain web sites. They have forms you can use to figure out where your money is going, what you can cut, and advice on getting some relief from your creditors. Go to the library and use the web sites. Don't buy the books, because if you need them you can't afford them.

If you dig around you might even find one of those big bad settlement guys willing to help you out with questions!!Just be smart about what you're doing, and if you get in over your head, ask someone that does have the knowledge and can help you out. If you do go looking for a settlement comapny, find one that's not heavy fee loaded in the front. If they're willing to take their money spread out in order to make you more successful, you may have found the right one.
