I still remember buying second-hand books in my college days to save money. I've seen friends buying second-hand cars, TVs,radios , mobile phones. With prices of commodities spiralling, buying second hand stuff seems like a reasonable option.Would you buy second-hand stuff to save money? Does buying second-hand stuff seem logical to you? What all things would you buy second-hand? And does buying second-hand stuff help in the long run in terms of durability and helpfulness?

I agree with popski that there a certain things I would not buy second hand. I would never buy things like lingerie, shoes, mattresses, couches. But I do go to our local second hand store quite regularly and I also go to garage sales.

The problem lies in the fact that secondhand stuff usually do not come with a warranty.

Yes, I do go to 2nd hand shops to buy books and to browse through the goods that they sell. They are many worth buys in a 2nd hand shop if you care to go through their store. I have bought a good exercise machine for less than $200/- where the market value is $1,500 if new. It saves a lot of money buying in a 2nd hand shop.
