My son collects aluminum cans and he gets to turn them in and keep the money.  He has earned quiet a bit of money from it in the past, but the price of aluminum has gone down in the last few months, so he does not get quite as much now.

Here in our country there are many recyclable materials like newspaper, magazines, used batteries, bronze, metal, empty bottles as well as plastic bottles. Personally i collect all those bottles of mineral waters we bought on a shop or if i see one on the street i keep it. That way i was able to help lessen garbage and help mother nature and at the same time i have earned some extra bucks.
