I have told all my friends that use the internet not to use their real names or anything that will leave them open for someone to steal their identity. I have always told everyone if you don't want your identity stolen then don't leave the door open for thieves.By this I mean if your opening up a messenger don't use your real information for the thieves to find. You open an email account don't tell them the things you would not tell a stranger. It is different with these kinds of forums, your protected by good sites. But if your going to have a public profile it is wiser not to use anything real on there not even your picture! Take heed people !

I think there is nothing wrong if you are posting your real name and picture as long you are keeping other things safe. I have been on the internet for a long while and I never have problems. Just don't give other personal informations like your home address, credit card numbers, social security number, and your mobile number.

I had a dear friend put her picture and real name on the net and she got hacked I have been using the net for many years too long to be scammed . I have been working on the net and building computers for years now and I found out the hard way once about giving out too much info on the net. It just is not a wise thing to do!

I use special passwords with the ptc sites while a different password for my email. Thats the best way to avoid email hacking. I am using my email for 9 years now.

A long time ago, when I new learn Internet, I list on social site with my real name and makes email with my original name. Right now I never use my real name when join at all site.

I really dont know what harm can be done if one is open about ones identity and giving away details that are known to everyone. i feel that we need to be careful regarding certain details and not give away too many private details which may lead to someone taking advantage of us..

It's dangerous thing if the stranger come into our personal life. with difference time zone will make us lack of sleep because phone ringing from them. I had ever seen a movie form china "Ghost", they can use the fake social security number to get a job as an illegal immigrant worker in England. Or mobile number they can track you where do you live and stay.

Very good advice. Sometimes, the problem lies within the password that the person uses. A stranger can easily act friendly and get the person to admit personal details like pet's name/maiden name etc. These are things that people use as passwords and then the hacker has easy access if they can hack the person's email.

I agree that you should not go posting your real info, but if you sign up for certain programs online you must use your real info or you will never get paid. I understand that you need to be careful who has this info but I also think that we do not want to be decitful either. TAke care and this is a nice thread.
