I live alone and find it very difficult to buy cheap groceries for one person. I have so much waste its incredible!!! So has anyone got any ideas how I could save on groceries. I mean I do buy some meals for one person, and buy some frozen food or foods with a good best before date so I can eat the same thing twice in a few days. But any other tips??

i suggest making one major meal at the beginning of the week that can be re-made into other meals throughout the week. Say, you can roast one whole chicken on the weekend then use the leftover to make sandwiches you can bring as lunch to work or topping of a salad. you can also mix it with pasta etc. You can do that with meatloaf too or pork/beef roast.

I agree with the others on freezing items.  Purhcase some cheap little tupperware or use ziploc bags if appropriate.  You can make anything in a regular family size and divide it up into smaller portions to you have a quick meal to throw in the microwave - this will save you time and money!  Another option is to get a cheap vaccum sealer if you can save money by purchasing a larger quantity of meat.

Also, my husband and I love meatloaf but my kids will only eat a small amount.  Rather than making a large meatloaf, I make mini meatloaves in cupcake pans.  This is so easy to make a large amount and freeze the leftovers in small portions.

Buy on a weekly basis so you'll be able to monitor your consumption. It can minimize wastage. Plan your meals. The joy in buying for yourself is that you only buy things that you will consume. No need to second guess another person's needs.

You can save more when you live alone. You have to buy foods that you can consume before its expiration date.If you cook your meals you can cook meals for the whole day and just heat them when it's time to eat.

One of the best things to do in order to save money when doing grocery is to have a list before hitting the supermarket. Write down the food/ingredients that you really need or make a menu for the whole week, in that way you will lessen the temptation to get the food you don't really need. Also, frozen goods are definitely a plus since it can last a long time.

I like the idea of making a weeks menu aahead, although the only problem with this is that by the time the end of the week comes I dont want to eat whats on my menu.

I would suggest buying some storage containers and making up big batches of somethings that you like to eat fairly often and packaging them into individual servings and freezing them.  I know someone who buys one of those big Stouffers lasagnas and lets it thaw part of the way and then cuts it into individual servings and freezes them also.
