This can be considered free debt counseling - On the question, What happens in debt counseling? The consumer’s financial status is assessed and the following information is taken into consideration:
  • The total amount of debt
  • The varying interest rates on different accounts
  • Credit card minimum payment
  • Minor financial obligations such as utility, medical expenses, child support, insurance premium, etc.
  • Total income on a monthly basis
2. The next step is drawing the repayment plan based on what the consumer can afford.3. The counselor then sends the proposal to each of the creditors for approval. 4. The credit counselor handles repayment first, before it gets distributed to credit card companies.

When do you think is the right time to seek professional debt counseling?

  • When or why? if you are very insightful and want to prevent losses in the future If you are excessively falling behind on payment and do not want to deal with creditors. If you are thinking of filing for bankruptcy. (The new bankruptcy law of 2005 states that before filing for bankruptcy a consumer must undergo credit counseling sessions).
