By not using it actively.  I only use it to pay for monthly subscriptions and I am paying those off.

How do you control the use of a credit card? I would suggest that you do not use it to buy anything you don't have the money in a checking or savings account for. That way, when you get your credit card bill, you know you can pay it off right away.

I control the use of my credit cards by locking them in a drawer and not using them except for rare online purchases.  Then the amount is so small that I usually go and pay it off as soon as possible (like a week) on the card's website.  Don't take your card with you when you leave home.  Plan to have enough cash with you or in your account to cover what you NEED to buy opposed to WANTING when you are living life outside of your home.  If you have an internet spending problem, then just cut the cards up and don't even think about trying to pull the number off an old statement.  Rationalize your purchases by waiting a day, week, or month depending on how large or small it may be.  Planning is crucial to controlling finances.

William is right in saying that planning is crucial in controlling one's finances. Which is also why budgeting is a very important matter. I believe budgeting is one of the foundations in financial management. If one is not able to budget wisely and accordingly, their finances go downhill from there. It's always important to know our priorities and put them always in consideration.
