I have recently become concerned with check forgery as well as identity theft. It could happen to anyone. Here are a few things you can do to protect yourself. If anyone else has advice, please add to the list. 1.) When signing your name, write ledgibly. It is much harder for a forger to match your signature. It is easy for them to forge squiggles that you may like to sign your name with. I knew a man who would sign his checks with an "X" and the banks would cash them. Not kidding. 2.) When signing your checks use "gel" ink. If you are using regular ink the check can be "check washed" which is done by using acetone (in finger nail polish remover) I'm purchasing one of these pens as soon as possible.
