Well there are actually many different types of student loans in the US. There are federal Stafford loans that are subsidized or unsubsidized and private student loans from banks. I have used both a federal Stafford loans (subsidized) and a Private Loan from a bank. Also there are differences between undergraduate and graduate students loans.A Federal Stafford Loan has a low fixed interest rate that can start at 6%. The difference between a subsidized and unsubsidized loan is that an unsubsidized loan is "a federally guaranteed loan that is NOT based on financial need". A subsidized loan is only for those that have been granted eligibility by the federal government. In a subsidized loan the U.S. Department pays for the interest that accrues on the loan while the student is in school. A federal stafford loan can be granted to any student that can prove that he or she is enrolled in a school at least half-time. One of the main benefits of a Federal Stafford Loan is that acceptance of these types of loans is NOT based on credit so anyone can apply. This is because if the student defaults then the government pays the lender.A Private Student Loan is a loan based on credit. Most student loans require a cosigner. A cosigner is needed because if the student borrows a large amount and can't pay it off then the cosigner has to pay the amount borrowed. In addition a private student loan that is signed by a cosigner usually has a lower interest rate than a private student loan signed by the student only. I hope this information helped you =)

If you want to take student loans but you have no cosigner then don't worry as online there are many lenders who are offering your student loans without cosigner. Federal government are also engaged in it. You can get more information about
student loans without cosigner from online here.

Well, certainly, I think a freshmen with a credit card is dangerous! If the student can prove a way to repay (ie, has a job) then there shouldn't be an issue. Credit Cards are to convenient for me to show outright hatred to. Also, you would think that these credit card companies which issue student loans would have some kind of test which makes the student demonstrate an understanding of budgeting! Why isn't that a part of their form?
