I have a pretty big mortgage of £113k to run over 27 years and three months. This is rather big as I live alone and pay my mortgage off by myself. I do worry about it especially if interest rates were set to soar in the next decade or so as it would perhaps become harder to keep up with payments

I don't have a mortgage, cause I can't afford one. But maybe one day I will take the plunge. Best of luck with your mortgage.

We bought our house several years ago with a 30 year mortgage. Then back in 2002 we refinanced it at a lower rate, but at a 15 year term which would end in 2017. Since then, we've still been able to send extra principal and now we only have 4 years to finish. We will have taken 4 years off the 15 year term by sending in a bit more each month. I can't wait!
