In India Recently Icici bank was fined 50 Lakhs for harassing a costumer regarding debts collection.Actually the Bank had hired goons to collect the debts and the goons beat up the person for not paying out the debts.The court fined the bank for it!!!

i don't know what the rules are in india but they are deffinetley different to the ones in my country

I also came across a similar kind of situation from the same bank but its not so worst like the one you mentioned and I guess everyone is not lucky enough to get a compensation for the trouble they have gone through.

I agree, that those who educate themselves about their rights as debtors, is essential. Banks that resort to these tactics, should be severely fined.
