well i have been getting phone calls about me owning money to a cell phone company.  but the thing is that i've paid it and it seem like its taking a while for them to get the infromation that i've payed my bill.  so my question is how long does it take for the bill collectors to get noteifide that i paid off that bill?

If you paid the cell phone provider directly, and it is a separate collections agency calling you, it can take up to 30 days for them to be notified. If you want to get notice to them sooner, you should call someone at the phone company and tell them they need to contact the collectors to notify them that your account is paid in full. If it is someone directly for the company, I would check to make sure that your payment went through correctly, and didn't get accidentally applied to another account or held up for some reason. Keep in mind checks over the phone can take as much as 3-5 business days to clear in their system, even if it has already cleared your bank account. If you mailed a payment that they did not receive and has not been cashed, you need to put a stop payment on the check or money order ASAP and send a new payment.

A guy that I was seeing got in over his head with a cell phone company.  He (stupidly!) gave a phone, on his account, to another person so they could easily keep in touch.  She ran up a huge bill and then canceled her phone -- without paying a cent.  Naturally, he was on the hook for the full amount owed.  While he was on military deployment overseas, I handled his financial business and the collection agency started calling me, looking for him.  I negotiated a 50% reduction in the amount they wanted him to pay, with their terms being that it had to be paid in full within "x" number of days.  That was fine.  I sent the payment and considered the matter closed.Another collection agency started calling me a little while later, naming the SAME cell phone company as being owed money.  I faxed them proof of the negotiated settlement.  Turns out, there was the matter of the cancellation penalty that is assessed when you terminate a cell phone contract before it has run its full term.  That had NOT been included in the original amount owed.  I mention this simply so you make sure that you have actually paid everything that the company may be expecting.  In his case, the two amounts were sent to two different agencies.  I finally got it straightened out but what a mess.  Keeping a paper trail and very accurate records is really your best friend in these situations because the waters get muddy with the more people that get involved and the more people you speak to.

I think that it doesn't matter how long it does take for the bill collectors to get notifiedabout your payments - as long as you have the receipt/proof of payment.
