Do you think that credit card debt is caused by greed or envy? For instance, you see what someone else has and you want it too, even though you can't afford it. So you max out your credit card buying it. Shouldn't we all just try to live within our current income level; accept what we can afford and admit that credit cards are just loans and that we are borrowing money everytime we use them? Credit cards are not free money!

When I was using credit cards I bought baby formula and baby diapers which were a necessity. So, I guess credit card use is OK. But I couldn't really afford to pay cash at the time due to job loss. Looking back on it now, I don't have too many regrets.

big credit card debt is caused by lack of education. people spend on it because they weren't taught enough to save or to budget or to go out and get a job so they can earn money. things don't come for free.

That's another good reason for credit card debt. If more teens and young people had good financial education then most would never end up with debt. Thanks for your insight.

I think people get into trouble because of the blurring between wants and needs. Advertising has a lot to answer for on this one, trying to convince we need the next big thing, when in reality we probably don't need it.

That's a really smart attitude and I wish that everyone felt the same way about credit cards. Credit cards are not free money; they're a loan with high interest! Completely ridiculous. Some of the same people that would never qualify for a real loan are easily qualified for credit cards and the proceed to spend, spend, spend!

More Americans are relying on credit cards as a crutch during job loss. Hope our government is able to do something to shore up the job market and economy.

Yes, I think credit card is a way of greediness being put into a person's mind so that he just keeps spending money & then realise the payment is beyond their reach.

I don't think so. Credit cards do promote sales for business. The total sales annually may multiply in this way.
