As far as repairing your credit, you have to decide if it's really important to you. Even if you pay off some bills, you still may have bad credit listed on your credit report. There are no quick fixes when it comes to credit repair. Bad credit won't go away even after it's paid off, unless you specifically get the creditor to agree to have the debt marked as "paid in full" on the credit report or have the creditor delete the entry after it is paid. Of course, you'll need to get all this in writing before you pay back any amount. If you are trying to improve your credit score just so you can get credit to buy a house or car, it might not work out. Repairing credit and establishing good credit can take years. However, if you are merely trying to clean up the string of bad debts for personal reasons, then start with the easy ones. Whatever the case, it's important to get the full picture of your debt. Obtain a credit report. After you look over your credit report, try to spot debts that you could easily pay off that could affect your ability to get future credit, loans, etc. Then make a deal with the debt holder to resolve the debt for less than you owe. They might consider accepting less than you owe. That's a start. You'll want to talk to a debt counselor. Most cities offer free debt counseling. Do you have any more suggestions for reducing debt and cleaning up bad credit?

Basically, pay your bills and pay them on time. Late paying of bills puts your credit score in a bad light.Often, you can negotiate with creditors for discounted payoffs and get negative credit entries removed more quickly than by dealing with the credit reporting agencies directly.

Very good suggestions. Not paying bills on time can get a person in bad trouble with credit card companies.

This is very helpful information for me as I am trying to clean up our credit. I guess then I will have to call the creditors to see if they will agree to put on my credit paid in full so that my credit will be clean,. and this way I can start fresh again and hope to buy a new car soon. Thanks for this information

Its fine to say pay bills on time and don't get bad credit in the first place but that isnt always the case. With whats going on today its getting harder. Jobs cutting back hours, I am making it but some I work with are in trouble becasue there is flooding here and so jobs are shut down by order of the city. How will there next paycheck be enough when days after day is lost. Sometimes it just happens and its not in the persons control.
