How Do You Stay On A Budget When You Have A Baby Or Child?

When my daughter was born, I was out of a job and had to charge many baby supplies (including formula and diapers) on my credit cards.  Wish I hadn't done so.  But what is done is done. I used cloth diapers for the first year and bought baby clothes at the second hand shops. That was a big savings. However, I had no way to really stay on a budget for baby stuff. How do you stay on a budget with a new baby or child in the house?  Are there any ideas that could help a new mom or stay at home mom save money on baby supplies; baby clothes; essentials for baby?  Any frugal ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Those are really great ideas. When my daughter was about one year old, we started using the store bought diapers almost full time and our costs went up to almost $100 monthly. And, she didn't potty train for a long time. So our cost was very high for a long time. Mine was always super picky with food and still is.  That's another issue though!

I have posted a blog on baby savings - check it out for a few ideas.  There are some great free samples on the net and coupons are everywhere!  WIC is a great thing also.  You can make homemade baby wipes and homemade baby foods.

If anyone out there is expecting a child and this will work for those of you with young children also, search online for freebies for moms. There are a lot of companies out there that will send you samples that always come with coupons to help you save money on these necessities.

The best thing you can do is try to estimate the expenses the baby will have and then include that to your budget. Im not sure how tight your budget is but youre gonna have to let go on some things to make rom for your baby. Goodluck!

I firmly believe in times like this we should all be looking into getting state assistance, like foodstamps. Its nothing to be embarrassed about.

There are many things you can do to help stay within a budget when a  baby is on board. 1.  Make your own baby food 2.  Make your own baby wipes. 3.  Use cloth diapers 4.  Exchange babysitting services with a friend. 5.  Breast feed. 6.  Make your own laundry soap 7.  Buy baby clothes and furniture from consignment shops (be careful of recalled furniture and make sure you do the research before buying used cribs and highchairs)
