Credit Card Fraudulence

You should be wary even if you do not hold a credit card. If someone comes across a credit card offer (the type you get in the mail all the time), they do not always require identity verification to open a "pre-approved" account. Someone rifting through the trash can find your "junk mail" and open a credit card in your name. Make sure you shred things like this!

I think nowadays credit card companies are calling the customers for verification if the card has been swiped for bigger amount. This at the least can reduceĀ fraudulenceĀ to an extent if not fully. Recently heard a news a guy bought cell phones from various shops with fake credit card till he was caught in one of the branches of shops he had cheated earlier.

Good point! Shred the preapproved credit card offers if you are not going to use them.  Identity theft would compound an already bad debt situation if you don't catch it in time. If you think that you are a victim of identity theft, alert your credit bureau and close any open accounts that were opened by the thief. Also, attach a note if possible to your credit report explaining the situation. And, file a criminal report.
