Do you plant a garden to save money?  What do you plant?  What do you can? So far I have started seeds for... Peas, green beans, slicing cucumbers, pickling cucumbers, tomatoes, green peppers, dill, onions.  I will be planting more next week and let you know what I have added. I plan to can... peans, green beans, pickles, stewed tomatoes, tomato juice, spaghetti sauce, salsa, saurkraut, pickle relish, apple pie filling, apple sauce, apple butter, strawberry jam.

I would LOVE to be able to plant my own garden and have all the fresh vegetables I wanted. Unfortunately right now I live in an apartment complex and don't have a yard for a garden. Some day though!

Sounds interesting. I plant flowers in my balcony and In the kitchen I have 3 onions in cups. I use there leaves while cooking. The same I do with mint leaves. I have a small cup holding some branches from this lovely smelling plant and I use it also for cooking purposes.

You can do herbs and things in a window if you don't have the room anywhere else.  On the balcony you could do some vegetables also.  I have had tomatoes and green peppers in flower pots before and they do great as long as you have some support - tie them to a stick.  Search www.google.com for container gardening - there's alot of information and neat ideas.

pumpkins are an awesome thing to grow if you have the space! Especially because you could easily sell all of the ones that you don't want, in the fall! You can really sprout a lot if you have the room. I know my parents grew them one year in our garden back home and I was amazed at how many grew!

I definitely plan on having a garden this summer even if it has to be a flower pot garden.  I will be planting cucumbers, beans, tomatoes and possibly some zuchinni.  It will definitely be a money saver and as someone as already pointed out, these fresh vegetables that we grow ourselves are much tastier than the ones you can buy in the store. I know we can't eat flowers (well, okay some) but I definitely want to plant some perrenials to make the yard more relaxing and maybe attract some pretty birds.

The idea is only profitable depending on where you live, now that I think about it.For example, someone in Arizona in the desert planting a cucumber and tomato garden isn't going to profit for them. They're going to spend a ton of money watering it and such.Now where I live in Kansas City it rains quite a bit. So I don't have to pay to water the garden, etc etc;

I am in Wisconsin and we have a beautiful planting season so it is very profitable for us.  I usually have enough to eat fresh, can/freeze and share with friends and neighbors.  I will also be checking in at out local food pantry to see if they take donations of fresh produce and if they do I will donate some there.
