I remember back in the day, going through D.A.R.E. they told us the average smoker spent something like over 5 million dollars in their lifetime on cigarettes. STOP SMOKING - SAVE MONEY.(Numbers aren't accurate. This was 16 years ago haha)

Yes, it is quite difficult. My father tried forever to stop smoking. He finally did through the use of experimental pills (Veterans Hospital gave them to him). They worked like the patch but there was something different about them. It caused some sort of chemical reaction to make smoking disgust you.

It's just better not to begin smoking. For some people that's easier said than done. I'm teaching my daughter just to say no to cigarettes. Already, I've taught her that smoking can kill an unborn baby and can kill a real live human being. She's young enough to believe me and trust that I'm looking out for her best interest. Parents have a big responsibility to instruct their children that smoking is harmful to health. As far as money savings go, I don't drink either and that saves a ton of money. Plus, I watch lots of TV online instead of subscribing to the advanced cable. That saves about $50 monthly.

Everyone I know who has quit smoking has used the lozenges. Commit is the brand name and CVS/Walmart/etc have their own generic version although I am told Commit tastes the best and has a better texture. Depending on how much you smoke the lozenges may be a little pricier at first but think of the money you will save over the rest of your life once you do not use any form of nicotine at all! Here in Florida they are raising the tax $1 at the beginning of the month, two of my friends have already decided to try to quit because of this.

As difficult as it is to quit, you DEFINITELY save a lot of money, even when only cutting down. Where I live cigarettes are 7.50 a pack. I was smoking a pack a day. I switched to rolling tobacco, which lasted me 2 or 3 days and was only 4 dollars a pack. I then started rolling cigarettes ahead of time, and only bringing a certain number of them with me each day. After doing this for a couple weeks, I was only buying my tobacco once a week. After a few days, I started rolling one less per day. After a few days to get used to that, I rolled another less than I had been doing, and so on. I now only smoke five cigarettes per day, when a little over a month ago I was smoking a full pack - 20.

@rebelemel that is great advice! When I worked at a convenience store I did notice the rolling tobacco was much cheaper than the cigarettes- and usually not as bad for you, either, though any smoking is bad for your lungs!

wow, 5 million. Imagine what you could do with that. Don't smoke your life away; keep cigarettes at bay.

I don't smoke either. It's bad for the health and exposes you to all kinds of degenerative diseases like lung cancer.

Smoking is indeed very expensive. The other day I was at the gas station with my uncle and he bought a box of cigarrettes (it comes in boxes of 10 packs or something like that) and it cost him $45 bucks. I was like, "Woah, that's expensive!" And to top that off, the lady at the register told him that prices were going to go up to maybe $50 per box by next month. I flat out told him that he needed to stop.
