Debt Destroy

Is It Essential Nowadays To Have Two Jobs To Pay The Bills

In days gone by the women used to stay at home and look after the children while the men went out and done a hard day's labour, but nowadays this would simply not pay the bills. Women now have to hold down a full time job and sometimes this too is not enough to make ends meet, and either the man or woman need to take on an extra job, like working in a bar, or a call centre to earn extra cash. Do you or your partner have two jobs, or is one job suffice?

I'm a single mom so I'm the sole income earner in my household. I'm a freelance writer and I work full time from home. I earn enough each month to pay my mortgage and my bills comfortably. I have no credit cards and no personal loans. I think it comes down to asking yourself: "Would you have enough money to pay for your regular lifestyle if half your income wasn't wasted by paying credit card bills and personal loan payments?" If you answer yes to that question then it's time to look at your budget more carefully and get those debts paid off so that your income is your own again.

I think people spend a lot more these days rather than just trying to survive on food and stuff for shelter.  If you only spend when you need to you theoretically should lead a comfortable life, but people's will power can sometimes prevent you from being good with finances..

Thanks for the responses. I am lucky that I dont have massive debts, well apart from my mortgage. I earn more than enough from my full time job, but an trying for extra to pay off my mortgage quicker. It is easy for me as I have no children. Children are very expensive

I have been a stay-at-home mom for several years. I worked part time and occassinally full time while the kids were growing up but nothing too lengthy. But now with things the way they are we are both working full time jobs. The kids are grown so it's not as hard child care wise but if we don't both work full time right now we'll use up what we have saved for years within a few years.

It does seem like you need to have more than one job now to survive. My previous husband worked full time and I worked off and on and we somehow made ends meet. Now that I am seperated it is a little bit harder but I can do it.

Depend on the salary of your day job.  You've got to find extra job if you are not coping well enough with only 1 job.

I think it depends on your way of life.  Back then they didn't have cell phones, cable, internet, big boats, huge campers, they reused items, patched holes in pants and handed down to others, gardened, went thrift shopping, etc.  Nowadays everyone is trying to keep up with their neighbors and with that they need a second job.  I am a SAHM and my children are well dressed, but I buy alot at a thrift shop.  My family eats well but I garden and shop smart and use coupons.  We drive decent vehicles but they were purchased as a used vehicle and with cash that was saved for them.

I'm serving in the Air Force on inactive ready reserve. I get government pay through my unit and i'm also, for my main job, a realtor. I own over 150 properties and have 5 contractors working under me each with their own team of employees. I also employ 3 other realtors under me.I could live off of my Military pay, but i'm only 21. I'm too young to be "retired". So I choose to draw my military pay and hold down an actual job at the same time.
