Houses For $1

Oh that's ridiculous. I've just seen several hundred listings of real homes on real land for $1 each. What's wrong with you Americans? You're given so many opportunities all over the country and you're all crying poor. Come out here to Australia where an average, old small home in a moderate area will cost you $600,000. Our average income across the country is $57,000 - so hearing you all crying about how difficult you've got things makes me think you're all spoilt children. >:[

I'm replying to my own post here - I just bought 4 houses for a grand total of... wait for it... $657 All 4 have tenants in them paying $400 per month EACH house with rental records verifying they've never missed a payment. I paid for these using funds in my PayPal account not two minutes ago. I live in Australia. It wasn't that hard. >:[

Just before my home was forclosed on, I met with a gentleman who said he was interested in buying my home. Whether he was a legitimate realtor or not, I will never know. He informed me that once my house was put up on the auction block that anyone could come in and purchase my house for $1 and it wouldn't hurt my credit score. That was a lie. I do remember asking him for his license, because I wasn't really trusting him. He said he was interested in buying my home, but when I asked him if he wanted to "see" my house, he said he had already seen it. We just really have to be careful who we trust.

Fullscale - yes I bought a home in the US from Australia. Yes, it has tenants already it in paying good rent (I checked their rental payment history before I purchased). For the people selling - I have no idea how that works for you. I don't even live in America. For the people buying - what a BARGAIN! I can't believe I get $1600 per month in rent every month ($400 per month for each house) for a total investment of $657. That's insane. People keep telling me "don't do it, it's risky, it's scary - but I've already received my first month's rent so that has already made me a profit.

So, do you have any information to share with us? How did you find these houses?

Raven, Congratulations on being an astute real estate investor. You asked a great question when you wanted to know why Americans aren't doing the same thing. The answer is simple. Most of us have been taught to rely on the government to take care of us. The people actually buying the houses for a $1 or thereabouts aren't telling anyone. They don't like the competition. Also, most Americans don't believe it can be done because their neighbor, brother, bar fly friend or some other never-did-anything person told them it can't be done. Regardless, you may have inspired a minimum of 5 people to get off their dead ass and make themselves some money. I hope so.

I am very interested in this! I have been searching online and all I can find is historical houses that they will sell you but you have to move them.

I remember reading this discussion on mylot and thinking wow! I am pleased you have bought four houses. Unfortunately I do not like taking risks so would not do this. I wish I had the courage as that is a massive amount of money each month. Good luck to you.

Yeah, but aren't all the $1 homes coming with a lot of bills attached to them from the past owners? I've seen people buy houses for cheap yes, but then later on they get bogged down with loads upon loads of bills. Still though, if you invest in the proper houses & are very experienced in getting the given house rented out and all that I suppose it could be profitable.

it is amazing for me. $1600 per month from 4 house renting and you just live in Australia. don't you go to America to see the houses before you buy them?
