Would You Move For A Job?

I grew up in a small rural town, and on my last visit the town has became quite the sad sight. It was never a sprawling community, obviously, but it was a nice little town. Now, instead of moving to where a better job can be found people are either lowering their standards to be sub-par even for the community, or turning to welfare. My question to you fine people is, would you move to a different town for a job that makes you less money than you were previously making (if say your ex-company folded, or had layoffs)? I know I would in a heartbeat, but I am not tied down. Are there reasons people can't seem to tear themselves away from where they live for a job?

Yes! I plan on making a move this summer to another state because the lack of job opportunities in my small community. I've had good jobs in the past, but I made some wrong decsions along the way. My future depends on me having a job and being able to take care of my family.

I think that some people can't tear themselves away for a new job is because they are afraid of change. Maybe they have family that they just can't bear to leave.

If it was a job that was worth having - absolutely. Even though I have a child in middle school, if it meant that I could provide a better life for you, in a NY minute I would move.

I would say if you have a family "yes", if you don't, maybe you can consider the option and discuss with your family members about it. If it is a good job, then maybe you can consider less about it. Maybe it will pay you a lot and you will have a good life afterwards in the new city.

I would really have to think about a move. Is the job worth it? Would my children adjust okay? How long would it take me to get back home to my family and could I afford to visit them as often as I would like (illness, holidays, etc)?

It really all depends on the situation. But if financially I would be able to do it, then yes.

It depends on a few things1) will i be within 30 min - 1 hour driving distance of loved ones?2) if i'm with fiance, will he be able to get a job there or commute from there?3) will the new job be fullfilling, cant i get something similar where i am?4) what's the new place like, what are prices like, scenery, is it the kind of place i'd like to live in?
