Is it a debt that is owed? I would threaten them with the "Do not call list". I also would say the next time they will hear from your lawyer. If it's a debt you owe- or a debt they think you owe and you have not proven otherwise. I don't think there is anything you can do until it's settled.

That is not true that there is nothing you can do. The FTC have specific rules that a collection company has to follow. You have to send them a letter in writing telling them to stop calling your number or to ceast and desist with all collection. They are allowed to contact you one time after that in writing. If they ignore your do not call, your debt is basically paid in full (you can sue for the violation). Bear in mind you have to keep records of the calls, most reputable collections agency keep record of all calls so it is not hard to prove.

First off, I would get a harassment record started. When they call, make note of the date of call, time, name of company, name of caller, name of company the agency represents, etc. Be sure to get their address and inform them that you will be sending them a Cease & Desist letter via certified mail and then follow through with that. If they continue to call you AFTER they have recieved the letter, make a complaint with the ACA. The ACA has a website where you can get complaint forms -
www.acainternational.org .

They're harrassing you over a matter that doesn't concern you, meaning it's not your debt? I'm not sure that's legal. Also, you can get your phone number put on the do not call list. That won't stop legitimate creditors from calling you. But since these people are not actually calling to talk about your personal debt (but another person's debt), they would not have a legal right to talk with you. Also, do the obvious. Get an answer machine and start screening your calls. Put some distance in between you and this company. Change your phone number. Use a cell phone and not a home phone. Unplug your phone while you are home and have friends call your cell phone. You shouldn't be expected to put up with harrassment, especially if the debt is not yours.

I just re-read your post - sorry about my prior post. If you are not the person they are looking for, tell them that you will report them if they continue to call. They have probably used the internet to do some "skip tracing". The program we used to use would show the last known address for an individual and sometimes a phone number. With the address, we would do a reverse lookup and get a phone number and call. They might have done this.
