Have you guys heard of the future of debt settlement? Reputable debt companies are now partnering up with law firms for their debt programs. This approach is much needed in the debt negotiation industry. Not only do they have to be fine with the BBB, they also have their BAR'S and the lawyer's lively-hood on the line to insure quality for the consumer. In a industry that is still fairly un-regulated this is a breath of fresh air. Its nice knowing that you are represented through-out the time your trying to take care of the settlements. If there happens to be a attempted wage garnishment or any lawsuits the attorney's can usually put a stop to it, or tie it up in "red tape" until our debts are settled. Remember not all lawfirms offer the same service and every one is different. Goo Roo

Do you know of a reputable attorney who also works with a debt settlement company?

My parents went with the Palmer Law firm. They have been pleased with their service.

In California, and probably other states, an attorney cannot legally be employed by a debt settlement company. Attorneys cannot be on a nonattorney's payroll. So if you find a company like that, they are probably breaking other laws too.

To the contrary, here's how it works team...the LAW FIRMS are not employed by anyone period. They simply work with separate entities that specialize in locating consumers and qualifying them for the program. If the consumer qualifies, and understands the negatives/positives of the program then the qualifying company (separate entity) refers the consumer to the Law Firm.In this scenario, the consumer gets a FREE CONSULTATION from the company who qualifies them and refers them to the Law firm. This is 100% LEGAL and has been for many years. Law firms have been using highly qualified advertising agencies for hundreds of years....hope this helps people. Ultimately you need to make a decision...file BK or avoid it all together by enrolling into "Debt Validation/Settlement" program. If a Law firm is representing you, then you're in good hands....stay committed until the end!

Debt settlement lawyers are more reputable because they passed the bar? I don't know how many of the countless settlement scams have been ones operated by attorneys. A BBB report is far more reliable than just "being an attorney." Some are in fact consumer-focused and do a good job of representing people in debt settlement, but there's definitely some bad apples even though they passed the BAR. Here's just one example:
