I'm awaiting my Canadian credit report, but here's my story.
I lived in Canada for 10 months as part of a failed business venture. While I was there I had a cell phone. I left in May, but I thought I had cancelled the service and terminated the contract. Today I was consolidating my bank accounts and saw that my check to the cell phone company had never been processed. Now I'm worried that the company sent me to collections over a debt that I shouldn't have.
My questions are two-fold. First, if the debt shows up on my report, can I get it removed and erased from the report by complaining to the cell company that I thought the account was closed? Two, the cell company made a number of mistakes when I signed up. They collected my first and middle name (not first and last) and do not have my SIN (social insurance number) -- is there any way they could actually report my debt with this improper information?
Thanks
Each nations laws and systems are different. My wife is from Asia, she had all of the big name credit cards in her homeland ( HSBC, CITI, BPI) none of her credit transferred to the U.S. when she moved here because credit here is tracked by social security numbers. That may or may not be the same for your situation depending on how Canada does business and where you are from as well as where you are going. None of my wifes credit positive or negative came with her to the U.S. when she moved here.
P.S. Sounds like the cell phone company is going to eat it just for not having the right info.
