I received a letter from a collection agency for a company I never heard of .When I called CRA agency they said it was for Pizza Hut restraint that we had check bounce over a year ago and it was paid but they never received their thirty dollar fee. They said they had called the number on check it is still our phone number no one called it. We have wrote several checks at this business since then with no problem, which leads me to believe it is a bogus charge. I believe if this were valid they would have tried to collect before now. The date she gave me was 6-7-07, over a year ago. She offered to take a check by phone .What do I do?

1. request a verification for the bounced check.

2. look at your bank records and see if the bank lists any bounced checks.

3. never give anybody a payment over the phone unless it is a merchant you have dealt with in the past. Never ever give a collector any information like checking account number over the phone.

That is an odd situation. I would think if Pizza Hut turned it over to a collection agency- your name would be somewhere to not accept checks from again.

I agree- don't pay anything over the phone until you have the written proof.
