Would you cut your food consumptions in order to save money?

With the current economy downturns condition, I believe everyone is facing  great difficulties in meeting daily expenses.  During the good time, you might be able to save a little bit of money to meet your retirement goals but with the recent price hikes, I believe it is getting tougher and tougher. Would you cut down on your food consumptions in order to save money? Especially if you have the little one.

We don't overeat now.  Would I buy different things to try to save money. Sure but I already use coupons. It is tough saving money right now- the economy is bad.

I have cut cost's by shopping at a bargain food store for canned and boxed food and shop at the local meat market for better pricing as well. I am saving about $200 - $300 this way a month.

We have. We buy less of those items that we would consider treats and have also done a lot of brand name swapping to try make our shopping expenses that little bit cheaper.

We usually eat dishes that are simple so our food bill isn't that high.  We cut back on desserts if we need to save.

Most of our budget goes for healthy foods and supplements.  We feel we are much more productive at work when we are feeling well.  Too many sick days can cut into the income.  If we cut back it's usually on staples.  We normally buy those at Costco.  We also have a freezer so we can buy in bulk.  Local farmer's markets provide cheaper fruits and vegetables during the summer and early Fall.  If we cut back it will be on eating out.

No I wouldn't cut my food consumption - I already grow most of my own vegetables, herbs and some fruits. I cook at home every night and I only buy on sale or generic brand names. I cut coupons. Rather than cut out food consumption - maybe consider cutting out junk food, pre-prepared food and take out. The savings are MASSIVE on your budget and on your waistline.

It's an interesting take on budget management.  I am, however, doing a two for one in my 'excess' cutting.  I know that besides being a huge drain on my entertainment budget (eating out is expensive!) it is also a blimp to my pants size.  Even without trying to cut weight, would I slow the consumption to save money?  I would slow the consumption of Oreos and Taco Bell, no problem.  I would gladly exchange that for no Oreos and generic taco shells to save a few pennies!

I know we've cut out many of the snack items we used to buy. Amazing how the total is lower at the check out stand...

no i wont cut down. I have become out as frugal as I can.  I found a way to make some extra money in my spare time to save more.I've been making a good $300-400 / month.  I do surveys and offers on http://www.cashcrate.com/996129 .  Now I can shop for food without the guilt
