I've tried multiple formal letters to no avail. If they answer at all on the subject don't expect the answer to be favorable. Im my case most have not answered at all. The few that did stated they were not willing to settle. As I understand it this is the game. Most or all will settle if they know they face getting nothing or so they say. I'm still in the process and I guess there is information on this and other sites on how to settle debt yourself. So far I haven't had much luck which is why these settlement companies are in business.

Wait it out seems to be the best approach or at least it was in my case. I repeatedly wrote them with my expenses and circumstances ( mainly unanswered). Now I'm getting settlement offers. Problematic is those who have offered mainly want lump sums not payments. See my post under bankruptcy.

I tried to do it by myself, and everyone kept offering me hardship programs, but no settlements.  I finally hired someone, and did my research.  Turns out there are benefits to using a company, and most of the calls have stopped harrassing me!  Thank God for that!

Hi, there,  I was also deep down in debts some years back...about 2-3 years back.  Now, I'm just in debt and deep is getting shallow.
