Debit Card Stolen and Worried about Identity Theft

Earlier this week I used my debit card at a restaurant and I think someone there stole my numbers and made purchases.  I notified the bank once I realized it, and they stopped the card, but not before several purchases where made over two days.  What do I need to worry about in terms of identity theft?  Or do I have anything to worry about?  I don't know if they are capable of getting any more of my information simply by having my card number and being able to use it for the amount of time that they were able to.

I'm sure someone will step up with better information than I can offer, but I just wanted to mention that I had some fraudulent use of one of my credit cards once, and it was never out of the house. In my case, it was relatively painless. I think it may have cost me about $10. Good luck in your case.

You simply should be able to dispute those claims through your bank. Let them know you did not purchase those items and usually within a few days they reimburse those charges unless there is some kind of proof that you actually made them such as a signature.

None of them were made with a signature and the cards were never even swiped. On top of that, I was at work while all the charges were made in a city that was an hour away.  I can prove that I didnt make the charges, I am just worried about credit issues later on.  DOnt want someone pulling out more cards with my name or anything.

As far as identity theft is concerned with a debit card, you just lost your money. But they couldn't get any information about you through using your card. As long as you have cancled your card, you are fine .Did your bank put your money back?

As long as they only had your debit card information, it shouldn't be an issure.  It is still a good idea to keep checking your credit reports to be sure nothing unexpected is on there.  Did you ever recover the money?

Thats too bad that some one can steel  information just when you are paying. As if you lost your card its not safe and know using your card to pay also not really safe indication. I feel sorry for you.

Banks will usually reimburse you for any loses. You've already contacted the bank, and that's the most important step in this case.
