Did anyone ever see the SaveKaryn.com fiasco a couple years back?

Basically, Karyn went out and spent up big on stupid things like shoes/clothes and maxxed out her credit cards. Then she cried poverty and set up a website begging for donations for people to give her money to pay her debts off.

Now as much as I think her approach was a little selfish and inconsiderate, the girl made herself fairly well-off in a hurry. People paid off her debts, she got a book contract and now she's doing fine.

My question is: has anyone else tried this tactic and gotten away with it?

I have heard of that tactic before. But I would never do that, I find that like you said selfish. I think that is pretty below way to get rid of debt. But, no I haven't heard of that one site.

Selfish or ingenius. If she misrepresented herself then certainly dishonest but if she stated it as such and people were uh.......what's the word ? DUMB enough to pay off her debt more power to her. There is a web site or two full of people looking to do just that, some legitimate needs and bad luck others just lazy and scamming. I signed onto one site looking for advice and financial resources in the form of a loan resource, not one response. Those wanting the handout instead of the hand up got alot more attention but not many got any actual direct help. Lots of hard luck stories with " gimme" attached, not too many just seeking advice or help. Seems the web is not a place of trust.

I really don't think I could sleep at night if I put myself out there on the net and begged other people to pay off the debts I put myself into. That's just lazy, selfish and.... weird.

I believe in karma. What goes around comes around  and all that.

What's weird is that anyone would actually send her money unless she was dishonest with a really good hardluck story.
