At what point should you take a collection agency serious ? They all call, manipulate, intimidate, threaten. If you tell them you are on the verge of bankruptcy and any legal action at this time will push you into it, should you take them serious if they give an ultimatum ?

I think that most of the time, when collectors are threatening you and try to give you an "ultimatum" I would personaly doubt them. Why would they? They don't have the time or money to spend it on everything single default person.   But thats just what I think.

I can think that most of the time, when collectors are threatening you and trying to give you an "ultimatum" I would personally doubt them. I am no attorney.

I think it's a part of the job description.  But they do have to be careful about what they say legally speaking they can only go so far.  I've  never known anybody who had them come to their work, but I've been presnt when collectors have called my job looking for someone who didn't work there and they called repatedly were told that person doesn't work there. We finally had to tell them to never call again. or we would take legal action. Obviously the person who owed the debt gave them the wrong work phone number to get them off their back. But that is indeed proof that they will call your place of employment if they have the number.

A collector is never supposed to threaten to take any action that they do not intend to take, but many do.
