Divorce and Debt

My story starts like many others. I divorced a few years ago and my ex wife and I decided to take out a second on our home to pay off all of our debts. This was great, starting clean. In our divorce agreement she was supposed to pay half of the second mortgage. I kept the home and gave her the write off on our kids, however, her name remained on the home loan but I had the option to buy her out and the obligation to buy her out or sell the home upon our youngest childs 18th birthday. Best laid plans as it were. Our mortgage and expenses were set up for two incomes so credit became my second paycheck and the pay was good. I always had a repayment plan. I would sell the house or refinance it and buy out my ex and my debt when things became better. Imagine my surprise when the housing market started to drop, gas went up and so did utilities and groceries. Oh yeah, the ex remarried and decided she didn't have to pay her part of the second mortgage anymore. I was in pretty deep by then but managing by paying my credit card payments then using my cards to pay my bills. Of course the ex always managed to somehow trick me or have the kids manipulate me into paying for something unplanned. No worries, I still had the house and my refinance option. When things finally caught up imagine my surprise when the ex wife wouldn't cooperate with sale and declined my buy out offers, yikes. No problem, met this great gal overseas, beautiful, educated. Went ahead and married her.....bring on the second income, yee ha. Imagine my surprise when Uncle Sam decided it would take well over a year before they were going to let her work.....ughhhhhh. No problem, o.k. another mouth to feed and since she came here with only two suitcases there were of course womanly needs, still had some credit and she was after all going to get a good job soon and all would be well. I magine my surprise when the local job market dried up, right about the time she finally got her work permit. Oh boy, then a major illness in the family (glad we have insurance and glad he's o.k.).........in collections and near foreclosure.........imagine my surprise. My system was flawless, honest. It's everyone else who is working against me grrrrrrr.

Oh dear Awsheet. You need a hug. Your story sounds scary-familiar. Very similar to mine in a few ways :(

I hope you can hang in there long enough to get some of that debt down from the crippling levels you're at. You're on the right forum anyway. :)
