How much should we pay to receive credit monitoring and credit alert services?

$10 - 15 per month seems to be the norm. I'm personally not a big believer in this. You can check your credit report for free once per year at annualcreditreport.com. Unless you have reason to suspect identity theft or some other factor that would significantly impact your credit, I think that's sufficient.

Monthly monitoring of credit is essential to ensure that noone has stolen your identity. That sounds like a fair price to me, too! Thanks for the advice.

It would be important if you suspect something is going on. If not I would get a report each year. The average price is reasonable for this type of service.

The moderator is absolutely right, we can see our our report for free so why pay for it unless of course you suspect fraudulent activities .

Good points by everyone. I would also like to mention that you can contact the credit bureaus and put a credit alert, or more specifically a fraud alert on your credit report if you think someone may have accessed without your permission personal information. That way, any time you (or somebody who you think may have your info) applies for credit, they must contact you first to make sure it is actually you who is doing so.
