Legal Advice ?
I've been searching for free or low cost legal advice to discuss some of my post divorce ongoing issues as well as debt options. I am apparently over income for legal aid though they did not say that, only that they couldn't represent me. I've been to some legal sites and stated my case and what I can pay. I often get bites that say there are attorneys in my area that will take my case but then I never hear from them. Has anybody out there been in my situation and what did you end up having to do to get legal representation ? I literally don't have a dime at this point to pay a lawyer, especially since the two I did speak to awhile back wanted a $3,000.00 retainer. Help!
Legal aid may not represent you but, I believe, they will at least speak with you. Call back and ask if they will at least listen to your case.
Another option is to call various attorneys who specialize in your type of problem and ask if you can have the first half hour for free. Tell them you need some basic answers to your questions and their fee structure so you can make a decision on what to do or what not to do. I've personally done this in CA. On one problem, I proceeded pro se. On another, I hired the attorney.
I submitted my case to them in writing. They returned it stating unread and called to say they could not represent me. They gave me a contact for the BAR and that's about it.
I Can tell you right now that one of your best options would be to check out prepaid legal. They are outstanding.
