Why are we here and credit debt, a social problem?
I joined this site to get answers to some of my own problems and issues as well as find out what others have done to resolve their own. The question I would present in this thread is why are other people here ? I've seen some threads that appear judgemental or self righteous in nature. If you have all of the answers then there is probably little need to be here unless it's to help others who are having a hard time. Kicking people when they are down is not helping. I believe most people who log onto a site like this probably already know they have a problem. Many, such as myself simply don't know what to do about it or what their legal rights are. There are also numerous resources that exist but if you've never been in trouble it's likely you would not know where to look or what is available. While we are discussing credit and debt, I've seen very little discussion on the creditors or society's part of the problem. American's are taught from childhood that keeping up with the Jones'es is the thing to do. Mastercard and visa are everywhere you want to be............including, on t.v. ( liquor and cigarette vendors can't advertise there anymore), in magazines, on billboards............everywhere you look. Excessive debt affects an epidemic portion of our society, maybe more than alcohol, drugs or gambling addictions though I don't have a statistical comparison. I make $ 35,000.00 per year with $ 1,200.00 going out on just my mortgage alone. Why in the hell would even a single credit card company give me a $ 12,000.00 limit much less several giving me $ 5,000.00 here, 3,000.00 there knowing my income and mortgage ? That is as irresponsible on their part as me taking it in the first place. Facts are I am human and capable of making mistakes. We are by nature creatures with addictive or compulsive behaviors some worse than others, none the less the tendency is there. When faced with wants or more importantly basic needs it is very easy to fall into the credit trap. Smart ? No but I was able to keep my home, eat, buy gas and have Christmas for three more years than I would have if I didn't have good credit ( at the time) following my divorce. I'm no supporter of the goverment butting into things but the creditors have all the protections in the world. The goverment bails out the banks when they are in trouble. I get pay up, go to credit counseling, increased rates, bad credit, declare bankruptcy ( and suffer the social consequences), bad social implications, annoying phone calls and letters, maybe lose my home. I get all of this the first time I have a problem in my life with no consideration for the circumstances and no real protections. What is wrong with this picture ?
You are on the wrong rung of the ladder. It is just fine from the top of the ladder. It has always been that way and always will. Read the social commentary of any period in history as written by those on the bottom and by those on the top. Not much different than what you wrote.
I believe it was Marie Antoinette who advised we eat cake. Not a bad idea as it is all I can afford <g>.
The difference here is we HAD a choice in this country at this time in history and we blew it off. Proof positive that the majority of the masses truly can't handle or maintain liberty.
Ah, good sir, but when did we "HAD" a chance? Was it before you were born, after you were born or back when the republic was first formed? HAD is a very definitive word, wouldn't you agree?
Had...............before the current de-generation of America and the world. Seems to have all started in the 60's or so it would appear. It started even longer ago, however the people kept things in check through some moral values. We know politicians to be liars but in the past we held them accountable, now..............they lie before they are even elected, we know it and we don't care. Then we elect their wife who is no different, or their son or their brother...........didn't our founders come here to get away from the " kingdom"?
The founders came here to start their own kingdom. Again, revisit your history. Every civilization was started as their own kingdom. It makes no difference who they were, who they are or who they will be. They will start their own kingodm. And so it is written, "if you want a king, I shall give you a king..."
Perhaps, but when the first George W. was offered the position he declined and what was originally designed was good, not perfect but better than anything before or since. Remember..........in order to form a more perfect union.............doesn't say perfect, man will never achieve perfection. I think our founding fathers had good intentions.
