I received a notice from my mortgage company stating I had xxx number of dollars in an account that had not been applied to my mortgage principle pending receipt of 80 somethimg dollars to make this a full payment. Interest accrues daily and they've been holding this amount since last month. It's right on my payment coupon where the money is to go, how can they hold it in a separate account when it is money that is supposed to be going toward my mortgage?

Let me get this straight...You have a mortgage, and you paid a partial payment and they put the money in a separate account?  They won't apply the amount until you have a full payment? I know many mortgage companies will not accept a partial payment.  I called my company before my home forclosed on me and asked them if I could pay a partial payment.  Their answer was a resounding "No!"  They wanted a full payment.  They also said if I sent in a partial payment, they would return the money to me. I have since learned that this particular company had cheated a lot of their clients are now experiencing trouble.  I think it would be wise for these mortgage companies to work with their clients instead of being so unreasonable.
