Fuel Costs
I have no idea what the fuel prices will rise to this summer. I'd still like to take at least a day trip to Niagara Falls, which isn't all that far from where I live.
Is anyone here changing getaway plans because of gas prices?

Yes, my girlfriend and I hardly ever go out the house anymore because of the high gas prices!
I have a 2001 Ford Mustang GT, with an 8-cylinder engine. I probably get around 16-20mpg, maybe less.
It costs a little over $40 to fill up my gas tank and it goes so fast. :(
I can't afford the raising gas prices!
We have two cars, one we use in the winter because it's a 4x4 and the other is an Escort we use from the end of April until the end of December. We only insure the one we're driving at the time. The 4x4 gets about 15 miles to the gallon and the Escort gets around 26-30 depending on where we're driving (highway or city). I never thought I'd be looking forward to using the Escort but since fuel costs are so high, I think I'll learn to love that car.
Unless you are uber wealthy, you are forced to reconsider every trip you make. This is whether you go to the grocery store or work or just out for a Sunday drive. Gas is supposed to be over $4 a gallon by July. If you can afford paying $4 a gallon just to drive around, please send me a few bucks <g>.
I have a brother-in-law who owns and drives a transport truck. I see him about once or twice a year, and each time we get together the conversation involves his business.
In his case driving mostly in Canada these days, he apparently gets a "premium" or additional payment to compensate for the cost of gas, but I noticed yesterday that CNN suggested the truckers participating in the informal strike didn't get additional money, even though the price of their cargo continues to rise.
Do you think we could save significant money by shopping for food locally at places like farmer's markets, or do their prices rise with the others from the larger chains of food stores?
I think I'll check it out in my area.

The excessive price of gas has lead me to cut back on all my unnecessary driving. it is just way to expensive to be flippant with driving habits.
I traded in my old mustang and bought a 4 cylinder Nissan. It's cute and it's really cheap to run. It also cut my fuel costs by MORE than half! I'm glad I made the change. Worth doing.
We did the math and it will now cost $16.00 round trip to drive the 30 miles to the grocery store. There's local shopping about 12 miles away but they already charge higher prices. As an example they charge $8 for toilet paper we usually pay $5 for. It's still cheaper for us to drive the distance than shop locally. We do all our shopping at one time and only go once a month to cut down on fuel.
I'm in Autralia. We buy our petrol by the litre not by gallon.
We pay $1.52 per litre.
1 gallon is the same as 3.7843 litres
At $1.52 per litre x 3.7843 =
$5.75 per gallon we pay for our fuel out here!
I think we're being ripped off.
