I have a tax lien on my credit report that has been paid, but remains on there. I have been told if I tell the IRS that I am attempting to buy a car/house (which I am) then they will remove it bc it will negatively effect my ability to get the loan. I had a creit repair company working on my credit from August-December of last year...then was able to pay the lien in December. I have tried since to dispute it since I paid, and the bureaus respond with "already been disputed...and verified". Obviously the credit repair disputed the item before... Is it true they will delete it? What would be my next step to get it off?

I know very little about tax leins but I think I can tell something about the credit bureau as far as I know you cannot remove anything unless it is wrong. That is the only way that I am aware of. Dispute yes remove no unless it is not a vaild debt. Now did you know that you can add a statment to the debt explaining what happened and that you paid the debt in full. This might assist you in getting what you want in the end that way when a company looks at your record than they will see that you admit that you did wrong but you fixed the matter and are being more responible with your debt. I am not professinal but I think this info might help you. Take care and I hope this helps.

Your easiest way of getting the lien removed is to do it yourself. First, go to your nearest IRS office with proof of payment and copy of their paperwork showing they put a lien against you. This usually has the numbers and info they need to get into the computer and get to the right doc. If you get a clerk with half a brain, they will give you a release of lien on the spot. You then go to the county recorder's office and file it. The CRAs will pick it up in about two weeks. I would also mail a copy to each CRA and tell them to enter that on your credit report.
