Ruthep is right, I think it really depends on the lawyer who is handling your case. Same with my brother, he had a debt with someone and he didn't able to pay it on time so that person file a case against him.. However, he had to spend almost the amount of money that he needs to pay for his debts since according to the lawyer, he should pay him 10% of his debts.. Well, the one who had file a case against my brother had just stop or continuing the case because maybe he realized the more he spend so much than just dealing with it.

I'm not sure about how to get the attorney op front money to file, I will research that. But, I know that my inlaws could't have come up with any cash at the time they file. Unless they had a family member give them a loan. I will ask them how they managed to doit. Maybe the attorney can work with you on this, and let you pay him most of the bill after you get straightened out?

YEs, it costs quite a bit of money to file bankrouptcy. Many people feel that paying a lawyer to help with a bankruptcy is a better option than paying the debt. I can see the logic for some of it, but I agree with you, if I have the money to pay a lawyer, I would be paying the bills!

You could do some research online for your state, and see what some of the wriiten law is on bankruptcy. I know where i live some people have file their own papers without having to hire a lawyer.
