Quarterly taxes?

I finally found a real job opprotunity to work a home.  My husband said something the other night about having to file quartrly taxes since I'm officially self-employed.  I must admit, I know nothing about taxes.  He has always filed our tax papers each year.  I just sign by the x.

Can someone explain the whole quarterly tax thing to me or point me to a website with good information?
