Eating Out And Saving At The Same Time

We often don’t think about using the money we don’t spend on meals as savings. We just think we got a great deal.

Here’s what I mean. My wife and I enjoy a breakfast buffet at a particular restaurant. The price is $10.95 each for those without the senior discount. Thanks to my being a senior we pay for one but both eat. Nice.

Thus, we save $10.95. Yes we spend $10.95 plus tax but our intent was to eat out so on the philosophical level we didn’t spend anything.

My point is simple. If we put the $11.61 (meal plus tax) into a savings vehicle we would have at least $11.61 X 12 at the end of the year. Now if that money was earning interest we would have a bigger balance.

Point #2 is also simple. It is possible to treat yourself and save at the same time. The above example proves it. If we had credit card debt, the $11.61 could be applied to the card payment.

Bon apetit!

We like to eat out, too. In our case we try to keep a watch out for coupons.

I know some people don't like to use them, but we have no problem with that.
