Used Book, CD and DVD Stores

I like to buy DVDs especially, and I look at it as a "long term use purchase", because I watch movies over and over again.

So if I'm going to buy a movie, book or CD, I like to try to find it used or previously rented. Sometimes you can buy movies on DVD that are as good as new for just a bit more than the price of a rental, if you wait a while.

Also in many cases, you could trade in items that you no longer want to hold on to.

I bet others here are onto this strategy?

This has become my standard operating procedure for all purchases of books, dvds, CD's etc for that past 4 years. And, yes, it has proven to be a HUGE money saver for me!

I live in a town where the one store that sells used CDs, DVDs and records does a land office business. We buy from them and I must admit, their selection is fantastic. They do trades and offer credits which further spurs business.

Speaking of this kind of entertainment, we had some company over yesterday and we were playing cards at the dinner table. My laptop was on it, and I started playing some YouTube videos as we were playing.

Some of the feeds were interrupted with my connection, but some of them played through smoothly.

I didn't realize how usefull the site was as an alternate source of entertainment. I've been quite surprised at some of the video from years ago that's still living on at the site.

MerdeCat, I strongly suggest that you check out YouTube.

I was very surprised to see a performance of The Guess Who performing Share The Land from the early 70s. I think it was on The Johnny Cash Show.

If you're self-employed, you may be able to deduct some books, CDs and DVDs as reference material, depending on what kind of work you're doing. I make some money each year as a musician and on film sets, so that happens to work for me.
